Pennies

Shining copper falls down and down and down  till slowly it hits the bottom  kerplunk it says back to my longing ears  kerplunk  so insignificant a sound  and yet  with it comes a thousand dreams  from a thousand children  from a thousand years  I have my own wishes   
I stand here  throwing in tiny near worthless coins  hundreds of them  the first one said kerplunk  but as more fall down it fades  into a soft pattering  like rain pounding the roof of a house  as you sit around a roaring fire

Man in White SUVYou can tell by the look in his eyes that he has worked far longer tonight than anyone his age ought. After another twelve hour shift he heads to his loveless home. His wife finally moved all of her stuff into the second bedroom, so that he won't wake her up as he climbs into bed at midnight or even later.  
 
On weekends he mows his lawn to an even one and two thirds inches using his riding mower. After the trim he rakes up any grass that evaded the giant billow of the tractor. He bags all the refuse into shiny-black, extra-durable plastic bags with yellow ties and ties it tight. He puts the black bag in the shed he built behind th Man in White SUV

The RoadIt is a long road. I am yet far from the end and farther from the start. I have lost track of how many days I have been walking this road and I no longer recall how many miles it is in total. I suppose I will just keep going till either the road stops. Or I have to.  This area is not so hard. The paving stones are all smooth from wear and the soft spray from the ocean is cooling. There is a long cliff face on my right as I walk. The red-brown rock looms as a constant reminder of my isolation.  The last person to walk beside me left the path weeks ago long before the cliff started and the path descended toward the ocean itself. One nightI was walking down what I knew to be the Mexican coast, though looking back it seems to have been more similar to what I imagine the Greece being like. It was cliff side, and looked out across the Pacific Ocean. The path I walked was paved with square stones, with dirt between them, and the stone had been walked on enough to smooth the stones, and many were shiny from feet and water. The waves crashed against the rocky beach, and the sound was hypnotic. I couldn't locate the sun, but I was not in shade. First let me just say read it, it's very short. [link]

Then let me say I am now writing a much longer piece based on that. It will have illustrations. And unlike my other projects I know how most of this one will work out, and have most of it planned. The images are almost all planned too, so it should be good.
